Meals at HOPE
Our kitchen serves meals that follow the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) meal pattern for the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. That means the right balance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and milk for each age group , with limits on sodium and no added trans fat.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served every morning in the cafeteria. Secondary is served from 8:30am to 8:45am. PreK and Elementary are served from 8:45am to 9:20am in accordance to their scheduled grade level times. A reimbursable breakfast includes milk, fruit or juice, and a grain or protein main dish.
Lunch
Lunch is served on a rotating grade schedule between 10:20am and 1:12pm. Every lunch offers a main dish, grains, fruit, vegetables, and milk. Scholars choose the components they want, and must take the required number of items for the meal to be reimbursable.
Afterschool Supper
Supper is served for all scholars participating in afterschool programs from 3:45pm to 4:00pm through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) At-Risk Afterschool Meals component. A warm evening meal helps kids stay focused through homework help, activities, and enrichment, and lets them head home already fed. Meals are free for every child in the program, open to enrolled scholars through age 18, served with enrichment (part of an afterschool program that offers educational or enrichment activities, as the program requires), and meets USDA standards following the CACFP meal pattern.
A Note on Outside Food
Scholars may bring food from home to consume during breakfast and lunch times. Breakfast and lunch meals must align with HOPE’s Wellness Policy. HOPE is a shellfish and peanut free school.
